Linking the Past with the future
When people speak of breeding great dogs as being an art, it gives us
visions of masterpieces that are remembered for generations to enjoy. The kind of dogs that you read about in books that will
start you dreaming. Like the real art, these masterpieces are few and far between. Ch Overoak Rising Son, better known as
“Max” was one of those dogs that defines the Standard, and produced the same quality that he was. American Spaniel
Club Best Of Variety winner, Top Producer, and producer of the Top Winning ASCOB male in history are the things that most
people will remember him by, but his greatness lies in the generations of great breeding in his pedigree, and the generations
that our future holds for us will no doubt be painted with his image clearly in mind.
Unlike the Masterpieces we see in museums, in dog breeding the paint can
rub off for generations allowing the future generations to create their own masterpieces. One of the best parts of being a
breeder is looking for the old masterpieces in our future generations. “Max” was born in 1994 and lived until
2009, but his legacy and impact promises to reach out to breeders for many years to come.
